Sure the mags on the rotor would cost a bit upfront.The outer band could be adjustable to adapt to the the load.And heck has Ed(windstuff)mentioned no need to wind the whole stator.Maybe only a couple coils to get the output needed to match the vawt.

 Getting fired back up after a long winter.

i've been thinking of going with both a big radial and a v belt overdrive.
my friendly machinist gave me a sweet 18" wheel.
old timey steam control valve from from a big lake boat.
he cut a v into it.
1" shaft.
i think i need to add a dual rotor radial to the bottom side

i think i can get him to add an "n" shaped channel on the bottom big enough for 24 poles using 1x2x.5's
and still run the v belt to another alternator.
it will need to be dual rotor to compete with that brute your building.

the wheel's not secret.

 it's just part of the mess that my shop has become.

when it gets below -10c degrees i don't spend a lot of time in there.

now that the warm weather is here i can clean it up !!

36 1"poles on an 18" wheel is kind of tight mag spacing.

Hey that looks like all of my work surfaces!

No matter how many shelves and storage units I put up in my garage and workshop it seems that I tend to store 'stuff' on all my worksurfaces, leaving me little surface to actually work with. Each time I want to do something I have to clean off my worksurface...

 Ordered the steel i need yet from Don at Ideal Fabrications(thanks Don) to convert to 4 blades(blades built)and a 1.5in shaft to fit the wheel/alt.

 Like you need to tidy up a bit.

I'm finally getting started on a VAWT-type genny. I've had loads of problems getting a new post to show up. Anyway, I'm starting with a 24inch I.D. rotor. Mags are still up in the air (no pun), but I'm considering 1inch to 1-3/8inch dia. N42's, 30 places. The stator will be a cool wood coil custom made by a local friend who runs a cabinet shop. Using a banding machine with 1/16 thick material, he'll wind me any diameter, any thickness using up to 1-1/2inch wide material. I have 24 coils already made that came from a cieling fan. It's easy to change the # of windings, and can easily be mounted into the stator "hoop". I'm hopefully leaving the opportunity open to add a second row of mags inside this stator, making it a "duelly". The initial cost of the outer 30 mags is all I can afford for now, and I got some Q's on them also.
