I decided for Mother's Day to give a gift that keeps on giving. I figured the kitchen, being one of the most used rooms in the house, was the best place to start with a RE upgrade.
Usually the light over the stove is left on all evening and really doesn't shed much light on the counter crossed the kitchen, so I thought under cabinet lighting would be nice.
I looked around and decided to go with some short 5" 6 LED bar modules @ 12 vdc shown below.

If a LED just happens to go bad, it's easy enough to pop out a module and fix it, or replace it, not so with the long flexible strip type.
To make things even more interesting, I decided to use an old motion detector off one of those solar powered security lights. Both the solar panel and battery were toast, but the detector electronics worked fine.
The security light was setup to run 6 vdc, but I found the motion detector electronics to handle 12 vdc with no ill effects. (It don't release it's smoke!!) The LED modules can run at between ~8 to 14.8 vdc @ 27 ma so with the battery in the basement, with line less, it should not exceed the working voltage of detector or LED's.
I put up a 5w VW solar panel for now, and know I'll need at leased a 20w panel for it to work well in the winter months. The lighting when on only draws 3.4w.
The wiring is all in, but the LED modules have not arrived yet!? Hope to get some pictures posted soon!!
