Well here's my main drain rider now you could say it's a rider mess I was hacking on the buck from 30 to 12 .I just about got it . I included some photos of some delcos that are going out soon  . I strip down the rebuilds and chechum out or rewind higher voltage . A good rewind is 12 to14 turns 18 200c (Dosen't take much wire) that's what's on the bike now . The others are stock 5 turns of 14 .The one on the right has the y node out for Wye delta jerry  .Pwm the rotor in a boost config for a nice pulse to a second battery of like voltage as the charging battery  :kept below 35 volts differential to keep the regulator on the pwm happy .

Lifetime warranty (the diodes come out and the studs come out thru those holes as the piv on the diode is toooolow and pop easy )

The great part about this as a test rig is you can get a could feel for the power band on the alternator under test . Laughable picture I but a work in progress in winter no less

Hehe... no, I don't live near you Norm.  If I did I probably would have dropped off a mower by now.

Here's what mine looked like when it first came off the "assembly line" 5 or so years ago.

She's looked like this for about 4 years now and gets used quit a lot.

She's not as portable as she was but the "gearing" is much better and near silent compared to the homemade drive gear she used when first built.  The belt is a "V" made for swamp coolers and was the only thing I had to actually buy.

I'd still like to enclose the motor and maybe add one of Bruce's nicd packs with a cigarette lighter plug or 2.

Yeah cold is deceptive, especially if there isn't

any wind...I can remember one time got in the '78

Pinto stationwagon and the whole thing seemed

pretty 'solid' like sitting on a wooden bench

engine seemed sluggish on starting...and as I

drove thu town the temperature read -22 F.

....and that's the coldest I've ever known....

Norm posted a comment with two over sized images. I was told image rules apply to old folks too, so they are gone. This is not about the blurry focus Norm!.. Here is the text from his comment. Maybe he will care to reduce quality on those two 200kb images to about 1/10th that size and repost?

Nice CmeBREW, here is mine in it's present stage of development....

This what you mean by arm exerciser?....had plenty of this in shoulder therapy 40watts average for half hour 3 times a week for 2 months.

See that little generator...friction drive on the tire ?
Like I said next modification is bike chain aroung this tire and a 2 inch procket...10:1 ratio or 600 rpm when the crankspeed is 60

I don't mess with 10 speed bikes for this...just the different seperate sprockets from them, to put on the generator shaft Finally got the batt.pak up to 13.50...(40 cells
average 1.35 each)

What size/ kind of generator do you use ?

Zap, Thats about the coolest one I've seen so

far...in the exact same setup...which do you think

would work better....an Ametek or treadmill

motor?

remember this one....from a posting I did a few

years back?

I actually charged that little 6v 'powerwheels'

battery by handcranking the lawnmower wheel.

See the knob...the chrome socket screwed into the

side of the rubber tire with a lag screw?

All that's needed is a bigger tire and belt.

Got any data on the performance of your machine?

I have a treadmill motor sitting around here somewhere but I've never hooked it up to be pedaled and I have zero experience with Ametek.  When I was doing mine I was more interested in "free" than in performance.

I would think some of the cordless tool motors would now be worth investigating since some of their voltages are starting to get up there plus they are usually well built and much smaller than my boat anchor.

I remember most all of the different ways you turned your treadmill motor.  It's nice that there's more info out there now for different ways of doing a pedalgen.  When I was doing mine there wasn't a whole lot of info out there.

I used to have numbers on the performance on mine... I'll have to dig around and see if I can find them.

Maybe it can snow forever?

My truck, today, 45 minutes before sundown, on a well-plowed road.

And I drove it 4 hours ago.  :-(
