Building an anemometer
« on: March 03, 2009, 02:22:01 AM »
I've figured out the locations of our most windy areas... and they're pretty much where we had guessed.  (Way, way, way, away from the house and trees!) Now, I want to build an anemometer and see if this whole thing is going to be any fun.

We don't live close enough to anything like a bike store, so I'm shopping at eBay for the bicycle speedometer.  This one that I copied below is extremely cheap and so I'm leery.  Any advice?

This looks like the exact speedometer and it might be cheaper for you if you get the free shipping.  There are at least 29 reviews and be sure and read the discussion section towards the bottom.

I don't own either one but I hope the link helps.

I bought the same one last week.  Comes from Hong Kong and takes a couple weeks, but the price is right.  I am hookig it to this:

Think I need to make the arms shorter.  I have less than 6 bucks into it before the bike speedometer.  Let us know how yours turns out.

I've pretty much decided to go with something more rugged.  I might have to track our wind for quite some time.
