lol they've rated the generator power by multiplying open voltage with shorted amps talk about bad information. And with those inflated prices I'd stay far away from those junkers.

The 99 is a longer version of the 30. Neither are all that great for wind. What you need to know is coil resistance. Less is better. Any current produced has to flow through the coil.

Just because the 99 is rare, doesn't make it "valuable." The 37 Ametek is reported to be the best for wind, but those are long gone.

DC motors don't make 'great' generators because they weren't intended to be run backwards. But if you want to make something quick off the shelf, the treadmill motor in this thread works well.

The long 99 volt motor is not the same as the short 30 volt motor.

Most people claim the 30V is better than the 37V.

TLG rates the 37V as "NO GOOD".

He rates the 99V as "EXCELLENT" and calls it "The Boss".  The longer Ameteks tend to make more power.

Over $400 is crazy.

Windblue rates their stuff open volts and shorted amps.

I'm no expert by a long way but was under the impression the Ametek 99V was the best of the bunch.

With regard to Windblue (I was going to do a seperate post on this, time permitting) I purchased one last September as a "quick fix" when I knew very, very little.  I am not a great one at figures but I can't get readings that match what it says on the tin.  My experience only.

You will be disappointed in the output of the 130 VDC 4100 RPM treadmill motor from eBay, Surplus Center and other places.  It simply will not put out the needed voltage without being geared up.  The 260 volt is well suited to 4 or 5 foot props and I've had one running for several years with just brush replacement.  I don't know about the 99 volt Ametek.
