Proven WT2500 @ 50mph
« on: December 01, 2010, 03:37:28 PM »
The big winter winds are back. Had a gust of 82.9 last night.  Proven WT2500 blades coning at about 50mph. Such a cool design.

Beautiful design. Looks pretty solid. Is it a spring controlled system? Any close up pictures of the mechanics involved in the coning?

Cheers,

Octavio,

I have some pictures of the blade/governor, but the the pictures are larger files than can be loaded here. Can't figure out how to change the size of the files. Help?

To make your image file size smaller you need to use a photo software of some kind, for example I use MS Image composer. Whatever program you choose to use should have scaling, so if at 100% size the image will be larger than the screen size. Once you get the image to display at 100% and its fitting in the screen, then you can upload it.

If all else fails, send me a PM, and I can resize the image for you.

Or you can install the picasa software and perform the resize with it. Also, check if your camera has the capability of downsizing your pictures.

Or...

You could go to http://pics.ww.com and create an account and upload the files there.

I keeps the original large file plus converts it to a good size for web use that you can post on the forum with the insert hyperlink button. Or download it to your computer and insert in a story the "normal" way.

Nothing to install on your computer just automagically done for you.

It is free and world class on reliability.

Wow!

Double hinge?  Centrifugal force straightens the blade about the first one close to the hub (pitch control?) then, if the wind speed goes up, it cones around the second hinge. Am I right?

Those springs must be tough ones.

You got it. The hinge/spring pitches the blade to stall, other hinge cones the blades to reduce the swept area. Clever design Gordon Proven came up with.

Pretty impressive.  You guys think there's something in my coffee?  I can see from the hanging climbing gear on you that your fear of heights is no where close to what mine is.  You would never catch me climbing that tower.  LOL

If you're really technically challenged (like me) on downsizing your photos, I email them to myself first and my computer asks me if I want to downsize them.  I then take the emailed picture and use it for uploading here.

You have any pictures of the actual generator area?  Looks like a shaft drive from the hub/blades to the generator, but can't see it.

Tom,

Sorry don't have any pictures showing the generator. The shaft you see goes back to the generator, basically a Axial Flux design.

The guy in the picture is my neighbor, we put up two turbines that day, mine and his. It was a good day.

You need to get a hold of some high altitude coffee, it'll calm your fear of heights. You will be able to go up another level on your cabin and you come hang off of a tower with me on my next install ;D

I'm the guy on the left. And Proven told me I can't put up one of the turbines on a non-tilit up, ya' right!

Speaking of high octane coffie  ;D

I was reading on a forum about about scuba diving, about this guy who had to go diving at Ceasers Creek (local for me) http://www.shannontech.com/ParkVision/Biscayne/Biscayne3.html

The point im trying to make is, its common to see 14ft long sharks in that channel. I would be terrifed to dive (scuba) there. The waters are merky at times, whoa no way...

So this guy lost like a really expensive propeller, believe it or not, he got it back, and made the dive with no problems.

Thats a pretty tall tower, im sure climbing it could be intense, not to mention man-handling the turbine while its suspended from a crane.

and here's some youtube on my idea of high octane coffie  ;D

Thanks for the data.

Just over 4,000kWh a year, thats a modest site for such a turbine.  It will see you a long time with little issues.

Greetings, Windows Paint program in the Accessories folder has a Resize feature. Click on Image and select Resize. Then use Save as. I hope this helps. Great work.
