Still pedaling away
« on: May 14, 2009, 03:51:24 PM »
Just an hour a day keeps me going....that gives me 30 amp/hrs to log in at the 'Pedal Powered Green Virtual Gym'

A few times I can't seem to find the time.

Really 'lost it ' a couple of weeks ago when

I thought I could cope with a large gall bladder

stone and finally convinced myself GB removal was

best option.

    So sucess! What a relief!

Only glitch Doc said to take it easy for about a week....

hmmm that was okay for about a

day....

then I got back out and got in a few minutes of exercise

and working on my Trip & pedal generator

Combo....The thinking is that I can save gas by

pedaling down to the parts store ....I could walk

but my knees are starting to go.....

Whatever....one of my main problems is finding a

regular 2 1/2 inch 'soft' plastic roller skate wheel

for the generator

and then a 250 watt generator....this setup I

have right now is just too easy pedaling...

anyone can help me out?

Hey Norm,

Glad to see you are still going strong!  I need to get back to ped genning more myself.  I think you do way more than me over-all.

I am not sure what kind of wheel you need but these polyurathane wheels are tough and yet still grip decent and last a long time.  They use them in powerfeeds (woodworking) and like the non-maring wheels on hospital carts and such.

I have a 4" one somewhere in my misc. stuff but the bore is small.

Here is one place that has them:

  http://grizzly.com/products/searchresults.aspx?q=wheels

Or maybe something at SurplusCenter:

h=wheel

Might want to google search.

-Don't let all that POWER go to your head Norm! :)

Yes CmeBREW This is what I want.....

http://grizzly.com/images/pics/jpeg288/h/h0728.jpg

3 inch diameter and the price is right a caster

wheel was about like this....but it was $7.99 at

Tractor supply.

Seems like Harbor Freight might have DC motors

only at store....might take a look.

Why don't you come over to the Green Virtual Gym?

Logging in your watt hrs. gives you incentive

to keep it up....

When I started at the GVG I weighed 213...I

now weigh 192. You see when you start exercising

on a regular basis everthing works better and you

start eating better and less.

I am a little amazed that this works so well,

it's like magic....no kidding !

You're more than welcome, and thanks for the

links...just what I need !

At least the women are letting you play now!

The treadmill motor should make more power.

Not a whole lot of RPM faster than 1A should

make a lot more amps.

(I think)

So I don't usually recharge the 75 amp/hr battery

with the ped gen

The 110 volt weed wacker uses about 150 to 180 watts.

So it takes quite a bit to recharge with

the pedgen....but I can start charging it with

pedal power until the sun comes up ....then switch to solar

power.

This is a roundabout way to so it....would be easier to recharge a 18 volt weedwacker, it just

shows how much you can accomplish by ped generatin'

Thats really cool Norm.   I already know what many of the guys around here are thinking-- "Wouldn't it be More efficient to just make a pedal powered lawnmower directly.  You could save 20 percent losses!"   -Sorry couldn't resist.

I am trying to become a member of that pedal society thing. But I only usually do a quick lazy 20 Watt hour a day or so.(2 min each time I have to use the toilet room)

CmeBREW,

Yeah thinking of a PPLM or a treadle powered

lawnmower.

   20 watts a day isn't too bad...I only do 30

but it takes me an hour to do that, it's more the

machine than me 5 watt/hr in 10 minutes.

Actually you only have to have a machine to make

some electricity to become a member just like

going to a gym a couple of times a week.

The gears are spinning in my head as I watch

my 12 yr old Grandson on the swing/glider.

I haven't yet hooked it up to a generator,

All that energy going to waste....

Bruce,

Went to the Mall yesterday....$99 for a B&D

cordless weedwacker....I got weedwacker parts

hook a car heater blower motor on one about 10

amps....maybe more will be a lot cheaper?

Off to my daughters to wack some weeds with the

'almost cordless weed whacker'

Hi Norm,

LOL ... priceless Norm!

I guess maybe I've got it all backwards, I put all my energy into making an electric bike so I wouldn't have to pedal. At least I charge my 24V 36Ah of batteries on the ebike from my wind turbine and solar panels ... do I get any green points for that?

Granted, I'm not losing any weight this way though.

Congrats on your hard work and great way to lose weight and generate power at the same time! Good plan.
