My project
« on: June 08, 2009, 04:02:18 AM »
Hi I am from Perth Autralia and I am new to this so please excuse. My idea is to charge a 12v deep cycle battery from a 80watt solar panel and run all my lights and a few other thing of it. I have a 130ah battery (wet) housed in a plastic box with a small fan set for 1 hour off and 2 mins on for venting and cooling. It will feed the lighting through a 10a circuit breaker, most of the globes I have made myself using 8mm LEDs with 140 deg view @ 100Kmcd. a few are auto LEDs adapted to 22B fittings. I have a 800w (peak 2000w) inverter feeding a double socket with an RCD for my 240v.

You did not say anything about a solar controller. That can be a lot of panel for one battery. Lot of inverter for one battery also. I have 600 ah's of batteries and just run a 140 watt inverter. I do have a 1000 watt hooked up in case I need it but never had to run it yet. Sounds like you are getting started.

I would get a solar controller. May as well over size it some to start with because you will just want to grow.

Good luck.
