VAWT Road Test
« on: August 06, 2009, 11:09:16 PM »

Test showed max RPM's where reached at low speed and remained stable and constant as speed increased.

Test also showed the need to reconfigure alternator to produce a higher output at a lower RPM's.

Best idea:  Renting a truck for 20 bux, buying the "all dings are prepaid" insurance option, and using THAT instead of your OWN vehicle (in case the mill throws a blade).

Hi KilroyOdin.

I've done several years of truck mounted wind testing myself.

When I've reported my test #s here I got alot of critisizem for my scewed mph#s.

Wind excelerates over the cab, exsisting wind condidtions and all that.

I have a wind tunnel now and the #s are way diferant.

I would have a play with the angle the blades are mounted, see if you can improve the max rpm before it stalls?

Hi, it was a very claim day and I was using a hand held anemometer and the wind speed being measured was about the  same as the dash board MPH gauge. I was surprised.

Were you holding the anemometer near the middle of the blades on the turbine or out the window?
