The ongoing saga of my seventeen footer

This is a piece of 1/4 x 1 stainless flat stock rolled into a 16.5 inch ring tig welded to the back side of the rear rotor, I intend to build a clamp type caliper that will be cable operated, it will be able to be applied slowly to avoid sudden jerks, it will also be able to be updated to some kind of automated operation in the future, I will keep updating as it progresses.

Hi

I am impressed with the welding I used to do all the welding at my last employer, marine applications, stainles, aluminum etc, what shielding gas did you use? For stainless we used helium you had to be careful not to loose the arc it gave better penetration, but stainless to a standard steels you had to be careful not to get stress cracks on the weld ends.

I use just straight argon, with stainless 309 filler rod it is less likely to crack when welding to dissimilar metals.
