Sr WiNdTech;

Hope you didn't mind me still posting on your 48V post and didn't mean to pull this into another direction.

TomW:

I know the other post was way long and in the wrong area so I put this over in my own diary.

I can offer what I've come to learn about armchair "experts".

They are what the word breaks down into EX PERTS.

NOW! I don't really want to start any flamewars or slamming of people, but to me a person who knows what they're doing is a professional not an ex_pert.

Doesn't matter to me if they have 5 degrees or are self taught; if they know what they're doing then they are a professional.

Which is why over in the newbie section I try hard not to get short tempered, we have ALL been there at one time or another.

A perfect example is Pepa, this man is self taught on most of this RE stuff and I don't think he' got much into Algebra, partly my fault 'cause I have yet to send him the CD I promised. BUT I'd put his self-taught commonsense knowledge up against most, mainly 'cause he's done it, built it and some arm-chair Yahoo telling him it won't work didn't stop him and it does work for what he wants it to do. The man built a 12foot S-VAWT that worked and only took it down to make the chain drive better, one he put together.

His woodworking skills when it comes to making swings are as professional as they come and I'm pretty sure he's not schooled on that either.

I need to dig out a pic I took of the AMISH swing he built carved, WOW is it a beauty!!

Cheers;

Me again;

TomW if you want, let me know, I'll reconfigure the un-used controller for 24Vdc set it for 24Vdc (NiCd) and ship both to you for field testing.

BUT promise not to tell G- I still had one left.

Might not be real quick, my absence of a lot of things has put me behind on even getting the Laptops out the Keith for our up-coming trip to the Philippines, and Time is getting short for them to be shippable.

Experts aren't necessarily professionals, but professionals are experts...

An expert is a person who has comprehensive knowledge or skill in a given area.

A professional is a person who is paid for their comprehensive knowledge or skill in a given area.

That would be the dictionary term.

Everyone who's had to "TELL" me they were an expert was neither a professional nor an expert, except maybe in beating their own drum.

The one's I know that happen to actually be one or are both, rarely tout it.

TomW:

Oh SO true!! Except when they are speaking and keep talking, that's when my mouth usually overrides my brain telling me to just walk away.

The it's off to HR for another round of sensitivities training :-/

IF I could just shut up for 1 year I could actually see a raise above COLA...

Damon;

 I had a come back for that :-) but not in mixed company...

Hey!! How's the solar coming along? St.Louis is finally seeing enough sunshine where my Ghurd(tm) controller's are showing signs of dumping to the SLAs (3rd bank down).

I have banks of NiCds setup at 14.4Vdc and I was beginning to worry about the main bank.

The SLAs are the bottom bank and only there during winter since the e-scooter isn't ridden then.

Cheers

Still waiting for an inverter to make use of the latest solar bling on the roof...  Bv<

Meanwhile 31st March is the day for submitting generation meter readings to our supplier (and thence the government or one of its tentacles) to receive ROCs (Renewable Obligation Certificate) payment for the year under the existing scheme.

Hoping that we're no more than a month away from finishing off the new solar installation, which is under the new FiTs scheme.

Meanwhile I've had a bit of breakthrough on the living-room dry-lining project I think: I have found sensible builders AND the suppliers of the aerogel stuff that I want to use is bending over backwards to be helpful.  If it follows through then it is getting a glowing write-up on my site for customer service if nothing else!  Here's hoping.  (Also hoping that going space-age doesn't involve going bankrupt...)

DamonHD;

 Come back with info on the line-drying method? Sounds interesting.

Since I distill my own Alky mostly for vehicular consumption, I have several methods of drying that are not considered the norm.

I certainly have not tried the Aero-gel, too rich for my blood :)

Areo-gel is the stuff they sent out to grab comet stuff:)

Cheers
