derec , when you run a dc current through a solution it's known as an electrolitic cell.  the water is turned into  hydrogen and water h2o.  you can burn this stuff on its own   (it turns back into water  nothing is destroyed) runa motor on it  or put it in a hydrogen fuel cell and recombine it without fire. )   heat is generated  at both ends of the process.
