« on: July 03, 2007, 08:54:56 PM »
Anyone with some experience in laying thatch roofs?

Here is on example of what I am looking for.

I ordered a book from UK no idea when it will get to me.

Cool roof!(well,in winter must be rather warm)

I think it's the best from isolation point of view, and the best from ecological

point of view.

My only concern is fire hazard.Ideas about that?

Another concern is to find the good straw. The straw that comes from modern harvesters

is useless. The big gras that's growing in swampy areas is the best I think.

Please let us know when you make progress in your investigations.

you're on a very interesting track.

cheers,

I did a lot of looking but I can't find any good info on it.  I did hind some installers and it looks to be some big money to put it down.

Hi to all, Thanks for the responses and I got the book from UK. It is cool and has all the info I needed.

Also, More detailed info can be downloaded free from:

http://www.countryside.gov.uk/LAR/archive/publications/thatchers_craft.asp

"""""""""The Thatcher's Craft

The Thatchers Craft deals with the history of thatching, the stage-by-stage construction using long straw, combed wheat or water reed, and has chapters on materials, tools and roof construction.    """""""""

Thanks to all.
