manmade whirlpool

I'm going to try to develope a whirlpool within a 55  or 30 gallon barrel, to test the power of the coriolis effect, has anyone out there ever tried to produce a whirlpool before?

Editor cannot see how this is topical in this forum so comments disabled but the story left visible. I make a "whirlpool" every time I pull the plug on a sink full of water or flush the toilet so the question just does not seem to merit much discussion.
