faucet power
« on: April 17, 2009, 01:42:08 PM »
Has any of you seen or looked at the mini hydro turbine fixed onto a bathroom water faucet in a sink? It was just in the news today. It is supposed to be able to charge an electric shaver or an electric toothbrush with just the water from the faucet. It will probably be able to charge cell phones next if it works. It also seems that it might waste alot of water.

There is a brand of instant 'on-demand' water heaters that use water flow to power their internal logic controls yet beyond that I've never seen a useful application for domestic water flow 'power'. What you mentioned does seem an extravagance!

That sort of device should be illegal because people will leave the water running longer. Most of the US is in a drought. There isn't water to waste.

An small amorphous solar panel in a window would make more than enough to charge a shaver. An electric toothbrush seems unnecessary to begin with.

My RF read water meter powers itself. Charging a shaver would be really pushing what you could get out of a sink without wasting a lot of water.  I just got my water bill yesterday, it just increased a lot.  I got to get one of those dual flush toilets!

How much did this clever device cost?

Wife insisted when we were shopping for house that it have a dishwasher. I said for a good deal on the house, I can install one. But, she said I'd never get around to it? (can you imagine a wife slandering a husband like that?)

So...we have a dishwasher, but...she cooks and I wash dishes by hand.

Electric toothbrush?...electric shaver??...is this in a home that still has filament bulbs?
