thanks for your comments. Yes, this is a public river. My hope is to put a generator on/under/around my dock or mooring. I'd expect some permits would be required, but if it is under my dock, I could do some experiments first to see if it is worthwhile. That is why I want to measure the flow around the dock. I figure that if the flow is decent, it would be easy to run the power cabling up the ramp to the shore.
While I have your attention, I've struck out trying to find a turbine for this. The closest I came was to get one reply from Thropton Energy in England, but they have not answered since (no pricing, availability). So I may need to buy/build the blades for the prop. I don't think my skills are up to a darrius or savonios turbine. Anybody know where I could find some blades that could be used under water, say one to two feet long? I think I'll need to ask on the wind power site for help here.
