How much water do I need to make electricity?
« on: January 25, 2009, 01:10:27 AM »
I'm thinking about buying a parcel of property that has a nice little creek running through it. It's about 3' wide, and maybe 10" deep. It flows at a pretty good pace, but it's mostly on flat land. Not a "big" creek at all.

Would something like this suffice to make any useful amount of electricity? I already have thoughts of building a dam to control the water level...but I have no idea if there would be enough force there to make a good amount of juice.

You did not say how much head or drop you have. Sounds like you have enough to do something with. Read this http://www.otherpower.com/scotthydro2.html  Google the web for a Hydro calculator. Search and read this board.

This way these guys don't have to keep repeating them self's. Plus you will be surprised how much you will learn looking for just one answer. Bet you come up with more questions than answers.

Hi number21,

I'm new to this forum, but have posted for years on Navitron.orgs forum where if you check my project postings, you might find a few answers to the questions you have.

I'm in need of updating the pics & info a bit, but in the meantime any questions, I would be glad to assist-
