Solar Muscle for tracking
« on: July 23, 2006, 12:58:17 PM »
A couple of few years back this was in a popular science magazine and finally came across

it again:

http://www.pslc.ws/macrog//demos/solar.htm#MAKING%20MUSCLES

It also had an article about using it for a

sun tracker...but I didn't find that part...

well most could readily see how this would work..

anyone ever try this?

So you like that? How about this one then?

http://www.rotarystirlingengines.com/rotacola.htm

, but wait it gets better...take a look at number

6, disregard the first part ...(balloons are

probably cheaper anyway)

Well anyway I think if you were to scale this

popcan thing up a little...like the size of a

10 speed bike rim and enough popcans about 36?

I think it would be capable of driving a small

generator...like big enough to charge cordless

drill packs??

seems like it would be a fun

project for someone?

Yep, I've seen that one before. I have actualy been saving tin cans of catfood for the last month to build a big version of that :D

I like the solarmuscles because they will allready auto-align to the light: you don't need a circuit to point it to the sun! I love them! Hopefully someone posts here who has allready experimented with them.

If the solar muscle were to be placed inside a clear plastic or glass tube with the backside painted black to suck up the heat I think it'd work just fine.....in fact I've been looking for a simple tracker, and this looks like just what I've been looking for*grin*
