Newbie Question on solar panel construction
« on: April 20, 2007, 10:03:53 PM »
Hi, I bought some broken cells to play with and learn on and I have some fundamental questions about panels.

  1. Why do you need to solder tabbing to the full length of the busbar?  The busbar is conductive, the tabbing is conductive, so what's the point?  Why not just solder a little tabbing to attach it to the busbar?
  2.  Can you use any old uninsulated wire in place of tabbing?
  3.  I have seen somewhere (instructables: http://www.instructables.com/id/E4Q465IT5KEV2Z9NR2/) where someone used a conductive pen to connect the lines on cells (forget what they're called) on broken pieces without busbars and then hot-glued strips of copper mesh to the panels to use instead of tabbing.  Is it necessary to connect the lines in this manner if you're going to lay something across them anyway?

Thanks!

-Matt

Something about these recycled ebay cells and questions irritates me. Old news often duscussed at the least.
