Coil Question
« on: January 08, 2010, 07:58:56 AM »
According to Hugh Piggott I should use NO 16 Gage Magnetic wire, The largest size I have is 17 Gage wire, at 140 turn coil, Using 6 coils making a 12 volt stator what problem will I have with the 17? Should I run a smaller wire with it or will I be ok? Thanks Mic

Use the 17 wire , keep the same number of turns and just accept that you will not be able to get as much out of it. Make the tail lighter if you can so that it furls early.

The only time it will make any difference is in periods of high sustained wind when it is  furling most of the time. It will run a little faster with the thin wire so you may need to use slightly thicker line cable to the battery if you have a long run.
