Never connected solar panels
« on: February 05, 2007, 03:54:28 PM »
Can someone tell me if roof solar panels that were installed at least 13-15 years ago but were never connected to anything can still be utilized? We know very little about solar energy but are very willing to learn.

These were here when we bought the house 11 years ago. We believe that they were intended for use with the hot water/radiator system but for some reason they were never connected to anything. Until now it has been extremely hard to get any info on whether we can use them in our system. A cursory inspection shows that they are still intact.  Any help/info that would point us in the correct direction would be appreciated.

Hi Kathleen, it sounds like you have the most expensive parts(the collectors). If the panels haven't been damaged, depending on how many square feet total you have would determine if it was meant for domestic hot water or house heating (or both). I'll post a link below. You can do quite a bit of research from their site, even if you have a different make of panel. Click on the Heliodyne in sub catigories. Good luck :-) Gary D.  http://store.altenergystore.com/Solar-Hot-Water/c402/#more
