use for magnets???
« on: February 23, 2007, 03:13:59 PM »
These magnets are from the Pheonix Trading company. They are 1" disc 3/16" thick n40 neos. The poles are not what I expected. N is on the top and bottom of the disc while S is comming off of the sides of the disc. Can I utilize these for anything at all other than refrigerator magnet. How would I go about alternating poles on a rotor? Should I just try to return them? Advertisment never stated location of poles leading customer to assume N would be opposite of S along largest planes on the disc.

Are you sure about the poles being north on both faces?  How did you check?

Easy way to verify is to use another magnet and see if they repel one way then attract if 'one' is flipped... sorry if this is obvious to you.

What you describe is very odd. Are you sure they are not holding magnets with a centre N pole and an annular S pole round it. I suppose what you describe would be the same thing if you added a steel disc to one face.

Did they come from an engineering supply place or something where they would be used to hold work pieces or a DTI. ( Big fridge magnets )

Sounds a though you may have a case to send them back.
