Motor questions?
« on: August 03, 2007, 01:27:19 PM »
I read an article called "Motor Tutor" and it walked me through testing the continuity of the wires of the 1.5 hp Dayton motor and I believe it is a "Y" connection and I have continuity through the correct wires.  So as far as I know this motor is in working condition.  Is my next step to take the motor apart and figure out what magnets to purchase for the rotor?  From Zubbly's "Induction Conversion Process" he states to build the rotor with the largest neo magnets you can afford.  Is there a rule of thumb to sizing the magnets and should they be the round ones or rectangle and most of all how many and what size?  Lastly how do I know what size blades to make for this motor? I apologize for so many questions and unfortunately this is just the beginning.

Thank you,

Otto

Hi Otto

A short quiz for ya after your studies

 1 What is a slot?

2 What is the coil span on a 4pl 36slot motor?

 3 What is cog?

4 Why would cog effect the performance of your turbine?

5 What does the term skew mean?

6 Why would a round mag help with question 5

 7 What is iron loss?

 8 What are eddy currents?

 9 What is Torque ripple?

10 Do all mags of one pole face the same way or alternate.

 11 What is saturation and how would it pertain to massive mags{all you can afford}

12 How do you determine the pole of a magnet?

13 What are laminates and their purpose?

14 Why would you want to bring out the leads at the star point on a stock winding?

Just kidding and you dont have to take it.Im sure others could make it even more complicated just the basics.

Built by the same folks who build board stretchers and skyhooks.

I just am in a weird mood today and this is better than a battle of wits with an unarmed fool elsewhere.

You probably know most newbies on job sites, etc get sent looking for a pail of prop wash or the board stretcher.

My apologies, Otto, no intent to hijack your thread but humor is the best medicine.

Cheers.
