from ceramic to neo
« on: September 24, 2007, 11:56:10 PM »

starting a new thread.  thanks flux for the info about turbine.

what i am trying to find out now is how meny magnets can i put on the new rotor.

ive found sum on ebay. a curved segment.

   says 2" odx 1.75" id  x1" l n40sh.  $12.99 for two. south and north.

item no on ebay 320136313322.  dont know how to put link for the mags.

i bought the two dc motors about a year ago as i wanted to build a wind turbine.

the guy said each one will put out 500 watt max each.

so i got two (yes i am dum and dummer)  cost £100 uk $200 usa.

i new nuthing about this site or hugh piggots web site.

but now i could build a axal fluz.  and i will soon as i can get the magnets and wire  . the postage for mags is a killer from the USA.

mags in uk are so expensive 2x1x.5

so i still got a lot of playing to do with the small dc motors i have.

outside circumferance of rotor .the verry max will be 13".

so how menny poles can i put on the rotor  four.

                                                six

                                                eight

                                                ten.

evan no of north and south . evan gap between mags.

ceramic magnets are 1 1/8"wide  the old air gap was 1mm.

24 steel pole shoes . i think there called.

i understand i will get gogging from the steel shoes . so maybe i can make rotor smaller. 6mm or 1/4" gap. or could i skew the mags  using long thin ones.

cogging would be no problem to a steam engine.

i am not winjing about cost. i just like to enjoy myself as cheaply as i can.

i know the magnets that are on ebay the segmont type arent perfect. but if i can fit eight . and get sum power .  i enjoyed making the six foot prop from wood and can make another to fit new setup.

the winds we got in england at the moment are strong and have been all the time i am building turbine.  .

so $50 for 8 mags segment type and postage (arm and a leg)

i am for getting the mags unless told not to do so by the other power.

the other power is not my wife. but you guys on this site .

as thay say who dares wins.

thanks for all the help so far.

         cheers john

try to use the google search engine on the right

try words like zubbly , conversions

i think you need 24 poles and should rewire the stator so the coils are only two shoes wide.

I would suggest taking your time and save money to get the mags that will work.

Cant believe that price for those little buggers.

 Have fun
