smoking inverter
« on: October 20, 2007, 12:16:45 AM »
Hi to all. Am i lucky or is it fate?  Tonight i somehow missed and connected  and switched on a small 700w 12 volt inverter reversed polarity to a 24 volt batt. After about a minute   there was a loud "pop" and smoke came out on every side."my goodness, i've lost my inverter now"  i opened it,looked in saw no signs of physical damaged,no burnt smell, after about 1/2 hour  i connected it (right was this time ) and would you believe it worked!! Fate or luck?

I'd say it probobly aint gonna

work for very much longer,

usally popping and emitting

magic smoke dose not bode well

for any major appliance,

it was a good read anyway

Look at where the power leads connect to the circuit board. There was probably a reverse connection diode that is now cracked in half. I would replace it because it is cheap insurance against the occasional oops.

I have smoked about 5 cheapy invertrs from a bad connection on my Battery bank, the voltage goes to high & poof the magic is gone, they all worked after but for a very short time.

I would get a back up your probably going to need it.
