RPM to AC frequency

Hi All


Is the following correct:


If i have 12 poles on the rotor, will 1 RPM result in the an AC frequency of 6Hz?

1 north pole followed by a south pole will result in 1 complete sine wave which is 1 Hz.


Or will the amount of coils and phases also have something to do with it?


Your assistance will be much appreciated.

not quite - 1 rpm = 1 rev/ min.  So divide be 60 (hz is cycles/second).  6 cycles/60 = .1 hz.  100 rpm =  10 hz etc.

So for 1 revolution, you have 6 direction changes of the current flow in the coils.


So for any even amount of poles, you would devide the number of poles by 2 to give you cycles, then devide by 60 to give you Hz.


Cool, makes more sense now.
