Will this motor work?
« on: February 03, 2008, 06:55:24 PM »
I got hold of a GE motor from a residential hvac unit. I am not sure what part of the unit this motor came from or what it did. I am hoping someone can tell me if this would be a good motor to use for my first windmill project.

The specs on the sticker are:

  1. /3 hp
  2. v
  3. 60A
  4. RPM
  5. Hz

I am not sure if it is ac or dc. I tried to find out the part number by searching the ge website, but none of the numbers on the sticker came up.

I am not trying to make a lot of power here. I'm just trying to get started with windpower, but I don't want to waste any time or money on project if this motor is not going to work.

Ahh,you got the same problem i do lately and i'm in need of glasses.

It's more than likely a 1/3 hp fan motor and the bearings and stuff wouldn't take the abuse of the turbine if you converted it.Yes A.C., but not good in my opinion.
