Ametek Motors 30, 38, 40, 50 Which is best for low wind areas?
« on: February 10, 2008, 02:08:26 AM »
Hi WINDSEEKERS!

I have been on this site reading and reviewing for days, and again all day today - and now for my first post.

I would like to hear what people think about the amatek motors.  I quess one can not find an ametek 99 anymore, so whats the next best?  (THE 30, 38? - and then I question are they all the same, or is a REV J, better than say a REV E?)   If this is the case, is there a chart describing which ones create more amps with less revolutions, etc.?  And then - is there say somethig better than the Ametek motors, for same $?

I have been looking primarily on EBay - and the site SURPLUS CENTER, but dont wan to get ripped off, I have noted that the Ametek 30 on ebay has been going for way more than $50 in the past 2-3 weeks...

Anyone who has this model motor flying, what does it take ($) to get up and be fully operational.

Mind you I am creative and can do most things I put my mind to.  This all started cuz I saw some guy on utube with his ametek 30 - figured Hell why not me!  Any ideas, support, hecklers even are  welcome to comment!  I can handle all types of criticism!

THANX for any and all info, please post a pict if your flying - would like to see all the different designs from those of you whom respond!

Hi,

There are two models of Ametek 30. Below is a comparation between those two models of Ametek 30 and one model of Ametek 50. The Ametek 50 is 7" long, 4" diam and the serial number is #116339.

I tested an Ametek 40 that required a higher RPM, never tested an 38.

Here is a turbine I built using an Ametek 30, but also tested with an Ametek 50: http://windpulse.com

You can also check out TLG's website for more info on the Ameteks.
