Inverter
« on: September 06, 2008, 10:46:05 PM »
Hi to all, is it normal for an inverter (Vector 1500 watt msw) to have a low pitched noise, almost like the low voltage alarm but not as loud,It happens every time i switched it off. If i dosconnected the inverter from  the batt, the sound continues and fades away after about 30 to 40 sec. Upon reconnecting there is a visible spark, the inverter still works wonderfully supplying power to 23 lights and 1 ceiling fan. Should i be concerned ?

The sound as you describe it is the low voltage alarm, having disconnected it from the batteries the internal capacitors discharge until the control circuit sees low volts.

The flash on connection is those same capacitors charging up again, if there are switches make sure they are in the off position when connecting and dis-connecting.
