will this work?
« on: October 03, 2008, 09:57:32 PM »
hi everybody and thank you for this great site.i bought this motor for 10.00 bucks and i was wondering if it would be of any use to charge six t-105 batteries be it hydro or wind--.75 hp 1750 rpm 180 arm volts 3.7 amps--i have another one that is 90 volts ?rpm 8 amps latter one will light up a 12 volt light bulb with a spin by hand.

Shifted to "newbies" as the answer could be found by simply reading a couple weeks posts because the same basic question gets asked about once per week here over the last couple years. Zero useful info on the end use, like maybe voltage, also.

the first one would do OK as a wind turbine for a beginner  mill  at 24v charging as long as it is pm and not shunt wound look for a shunt current on the name plate if it is listed you are sunk if it just has a - or is not listed your probably OK. then spin it up with a drill see if it makes voltage. what size shaft does it have on it?? if it has a large enough shaft to support it try a 6' carved wood prop tsr 7 or so would be my guess. the second one you would have to spin it up at a known rpm and take a voltage reading because you don't have the nameplate rpm.

this is every thing on the name plate--cdpwd3436,34-6418-3946,.75hp,1750rpm,56c frame,w1197 ser#,pm3428p type,180 arm volts,3.7 amps--my set up is for 12 volts.ill spin the other one tomorrow and get the rpm to volts figured.right now i use a HF solar set up to keep the batts topped and a 5 hp motor and auto alt to charge.this all came about because the last time power went out it took 18 hours just to get them out to me to change a pole fuse.so now i would like to get a little more independece thanks
