Which Battery Charger 12v or 6v

I am combining two 6V Batteries to obtain a 12 v supply.  Do I use a 12 v charger to charge the batteries or do I use two separate 6v chargers to charge each battery.

Just put the batteries in series and treat it like a single 12 volt battery.

So the 12 volt charger.

I gather that I put the Positive lead on one battery and the negative on the other battery once they are in line.

first thing is make sire the battery charger is shut off and unplugged then you connect the + of one battery to the - of the other with heavy battery cable then you take the - lead of your battery charger and hook it to the  - post that you haven't connected anything to yet then connect the + lead of your battery charger and hook it up to the open + post of the other battery. then plug in and turn on the battery charger.

Dear James, any extra charging amps that are put into the battery that may be a little more than needed to affect the chemical reaction, will cause some electrolysis of the water in the electrolyte.

This means the water molecules will separate into hydrogen and oxygen, and seep out the vents. When removing the charging clamps, you may create a spark that can cause a suprisingly large blast near your face. I'm sure its even "possible" for a static charge from your fingertip to cause enough of a spark.
