I have read that  is the golden grail...whats the deal? Are there any others out there that are just as good? Why is the Ametek 99 so good?

I've never built a motor conversion or adapted a PMM to get Watts from a wind-gen, but the way I understand it, a few years ago the Amatek series of PMM's were easily found cheap as a used mainframe drive motor. These days they are harder to find and as a result are more expensive.

I have read that they are easy to modify into a wind-gen, and I'm sure there are many old posts around the internet of people who have done this, and now others who are new to this want to copy something they have seen someone else do.

Here are two potential project motors that "might" be more accessible and have better output. Best of luck (PS I havent done one of these yet, this is just links from the research file)

The 99 was powerful (low resistance), so more power could be squeezed out of it.

And needed low RPMs to reach charging voltage.  And quite well built.

Nothing magic, just cheap and common... At the time.

Certainly not worth the $300+ lately, IMHO.
