I'm new to the renewable enery arena, I'd like to build/install a VAWT this spring and a couple of solar panels this summer/fall. Before I put them up I'd like to get a distribution system in place.

Being a newb, I'm trying to find some direction on installing an economical DIY distribution system that will accept inputs fron the VAWT and the panels. One of the bigger expenses seems to be an inverter.

I've been kicking around the easy-connect inverter from TLG:

http://www.tlgwindpower.com/200watt_gridtie.htm

It seems to me the claim is you can simply connect it to an existing AC outlet and BAM! you're tied to the grid. Any insight or opinion on this product? Any other gotchas?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

even if it is what is says it is your electric company is not going to be amused by that thing being hooked up to there grid last i checked those small grid tie inverters were illegal to plug into the grid in all 50 states. only approved equipment with proper permits and inspections of install can be grid tied..... if they find out they could cut off your power, fine you, have you arrested, or all of the above.

I emailed my "good friends" at the local power company and asked them to provide detailed information regarding their policies and recommendations. So depending on what how much cash I have to drop to satisfy them grid-tie may be further down the road. I'm still going work to build out an off-grid infrastructure.

Does the Dan & Dan Windpower book contain instructions/schematics for building the control and storage pieces?

Thanks, Coz

My electric cooperative requires a 1 million dollar liability insurance policy to "grid tie" to their system.

It needs UL approval.  No DIY.
