VAWT design

Here's my game plan. I have two sections of 8 inch stove pipe. I plan to have 1/4 of the pipe turned to form the cup and then clamp the other 3/4 to a section of 1/8 x 1 angle iron to hold it straight. This will form the pipe into a "J" shape. I'm going to make two of them and have them facing each other. Question is what spacing do I need to have using these materials and what diameter circle for the top and bottom. Or a link with the ratios for sizing would be helpful. I know there are better designs but I'm doing this with the materials at hand. I have a quill shaft from a riding mower deck I plan to use on the base for the VAWT to turn on. This will give me a place to later attach a generator. Next question is what size/watt generator will this design be able to run? I want a simple and easy generator design. If it made 100w 12VDC I'd be happy. This is my first attempt at a power producing mill and I like the VAWT for it's looks. I have a VAWT sitting in the front yard I built a long time ago out of a 55 gallon barrel to just watch spin and it's stayed togather through 2 hurricanes. It's not secured down by anything other than the weight of itself. Later I may build a HAWT as my skills improve. I'm open for suggestions. TheEquineFencer at AOL.com.

 I would do it the other way around if i were you.Build the hawt first since all the directions are here.

 I think the one you built years ago out of barrels will outperform this one.You seem to be describing a Rahai type blade.Johnj may chime in.

plywood ?.....3 blades about 3 foot diameter ?

   Make a study of his design...I'm pretty sure

Opps, I should have been clearer, I guess, it's not that type, it's going to be built more like two 55 gallon barrels facing each other, but will have the ends straight instead of curved.

I "think" this configuration is called a Benesh. Using that as a search term, you might be able to find and make use of previous research.

Either way, if you make two of them on the same pole with one clocked 90-degrees from the other it will smooth out some of the pulsations.
