Motor Selection

I've been looking for a motor for a windmill I'm making and I have a bunch of single phase motors laying around.  One is a heavy single phase farm duty motor rated 1735rpm, 230volt at 23.4amp.  I'd need a good size mill to support it but will it destroy my deep cell battery if I hook this up?  Will I need a diode rectifier?  


Sorry for my ignorance but I'm new at this. Any input is helpful

If you don't have a diode in circuit it will rapidly discharge the battery. With a diode in circuit it wont do anything so the battery will be safe but you will get nothing.

The motor on it's own won't do any good as it's an induction motor. You'd need to make a pm rotor for it to generate on it's own. And with it being 1 phase makes it a poor choice for motor conversion.


I'd suggest google searching this board a little more to find out what motors are useful start points in a wind generator application.
