Blocking diodes
« on: December 15, 2009, 03:29:59 AM »
I recently stripped down an old and defunct large chloride charger

it had 3 sets of ordanairy blocking dioides and 3 different type

with small finer cables coming out 2 one white and one red,

would these be of any use in a homebrewed wind control system?

in a wind system

Honestly, I think you are getting in over your head.  No offense intended.

Just because something CAN be used does not make it the best idea.

If you find a suitable circuit using a few of the unusual stray parts to salvage, still need to find even more unusual parts to use the salvaged parts.

Many of the parts will be house numbered making it almost impossible to tell what they are (which is why they house number parts).

And when you have all these unusual parts and make the circuit, there is no telling what parts are any good.

Maybe that TV you salvaged parts from had a major electrical problem which ruined the parts you think are working?

The homepower controller used common parts, and people with experience had trouble getting problems sorted out.

Yes ghurd i get your drift,i personaly couldnt put together

anything electronic together,

(apart from the philips kits we used to get as kids, made a radio once)

I think maybe there was crossed lines in my post, i saw on another site

that blocking diodes can be used as a one way valve so to speak to prevent

the battery from driving a pma or dynamo turbine, i think they are normally

refered to as stud diodes, i had some of these from an old (probly fork truck)

charger,(no televisions invoved),and as well as the stud diodes there were 3 similar

ones that have small wires coming from them i now now that they are current flow control diodes thyristors,

im not intnding to build a complex controller just a free (heavy duty)reverse

current preventer i dont think the thyristors are much use to me
