Kevlar 50/50 used as stator underlayment
« on: April 07, 2010, 06:55:38 AM »
Have used Kevlar 50/50 as underlayment for 9 coil 12 magnet rotor. Experienced 1.25( open AC volts)@ 90 RPM's, should be 12 open AC volts or better. Zeroing in on solutions, thinking coils not tight enough for 3 phase passing over of magnets, or Kevlar a culprit. Any suggestions?

I suspect you have connection errors or you have done something silly. Try to get some pictures or explain better what you have done.

Tightness of winding coils in not going to make that much difference, as far as I know kevlar is an insulator and is not the trouble.

I can only assume you have chosen a viable coil/magnet relationship but I do wonder if you have chosen something silly.

I've been involved with use of Kevlar for over 35 years in various electrical / electronic commercial and military designs: Kevalar is a very good electrical insulator and would not be any cause for your coils' performance issues; look elsewhere, as Flux suggests.

"Have used Kevlar 50/50 as underlayment for 9 coil 12 magnet rotor"

are we talking about a Kevlar mag rotor here?

or the stator?

I didn't spot this. I assumed it was for the stator. I can't imagine where kevlar comes into magnet rotors, certainly there is no place for it in the magnetic circuit.
