Pepa, Looking at your wiring photo, you have only 1 leg in each slot. This will give you half the coils that the picture in the file from toms has ( if that is the diagram above)

If you look closely at the inset (inside the magnified circle bottom left) you will notice that each slot has two (2) coil legs per slot. I think you have only 1 coil leg per slot.

Peter was pointing this out, as well as the fact that the second phase needs to be reversed ( i think this is what he was getting at anyway). The leg spaces (which should have been used by the next coil)could have been used by a further three phases to make a 6 phase winding. You seem to have spaced the coils out to every second position and left the intervening one out.

For 36 slots with a three slot coil width you should have 36 coils (12x3slots per phase if you use toms diagram as a sample), you appear to be ending up with 18 coils(6x3 slots per phase)which is half the coil count you are trying to emulate....... did I mess this up, or does it make some kind of sense??

It will still work, but not as well as a filled three phase I would suspect. It is really half of a 6 phase design.(the other missing 18 coils would make either the other half of a 3 phase design, or the second three phases of a 6 phase design.

I'd better stop now and wait for help from Peter, I think I might be complicating this instead of simplifying it..

May have been good to do a single wire test scheme and test your winding combinations and see which was best for that stator.

thanks Oztules, its really nice when the light finaly comes on, i was looking strait at it and could not see the coil layout in that picture until you pointed it our, i will rewind. if you had not come back with a reply i would still be bumping my head, thanks again for not leaving me hanging. pepa.

thanks again Peter, this is my first slotted lam stator and i was confused on the coil layout, with your help and a lot of reading and help from other members, i can now complete the project. pepa

Pepa maybe do a practice winding of a couple turns and upload a pic.

I did a diary entitled( 2ph stator winding)in my files.

Learned alot from that. Thanks again guys.

 Have fun

Hi Pepa,

Maybe Zubbly can chime in because you'll only get 2nd hand information from me.

You say 'if it worked for Tom's generator...'; I remember Zubbly explaining to me how it -was- a problem for Tom's generator and which took him a while to figure out what went wrong; the links to the two drawings explains it all; I suggest we learn from other people's mistakes; Z has made a quite a few and learned a lot doing it and solving the problems; no need for you and I to repeat the same mistakes. In fact, I -was- going to make the same mistake as you and Zubbly, but thankfully he spotted my error in time and corrected me.

The solution he used in Tom's generator was to rectify each phase individually.

In your case, however, it looks pretty easy to remove just the two windings of one phase and correct the stator, without too much rework/hassle. In that case, you'd have the option of wiring for star, delta and even rectify the phases individually.

Regards,

You did a perfect job explaining things, Oz.

Sorry for the late reply to this thread but I have been away for the weekend.

Peter

I wonder what zub thinks of the 12/36 winding. If he chimes in.

 Pepa has large slots.
