Members Trading Post Debut
« on: February 11, 2008, 06:16:34 PM »
Dear Members;

We have started a site devoted to listing items you have to give away or items you would like to acquire for the shipping cost.

Items to give away must be free except for shipping costs. No "handling charges" just actual cost to ship.

We hope to bring together folks with good, usable items and folks who could use those items.

Initially, at least, we will only consider participating members from this forum as members of the Trading Post. The Admins of the Trading Post will have sole say in who will get a membership. This is to keep it sane and clear of 6 billion "Me too" posts.

Whether or not a person wishes to share the item with someone is purely up to that person.

The purpose is to redistribute good items one member has to other members who will use them.

We are working this out as we go along so things may change along the way.

Not much listed yet but that should change.

We have one member with a fair bit of industrial power control hardware that is perfectly useful but can not be put into use "used" and we hope to distribute things to folks who will use them.

While discussing how best to painlessly redistribute this stuff we thought lots of others may be in a similar situation.

There is a signup page HERE

We have openings for those wishing to give away items and an area for items wanted. Please be reasonable with requests. We don't want one user requesting every component known to man.

So, come on over and check it out.

I was not clear on this but this is not officially part of FieldLines. It is an idea we came up with on IRC when Dean offered a bunch of stuff he would have to scrap unless he could get rid of it. Mainly fungus, myself, Dean and a couple other users tossed the idea together and posted this story. From idea to functioning resource in a couple hours. Just wanted to note the bit about it being a separate resource from FieldLines. TW

it looks a great idea . i have sum great junk. could be called junk shop.

as i live in the uk then maybe the shipping cost to other parts of the world could be to much.   things ive got in the past i had to pay duty on. sumthing like import duty.

but for second hand stuff or a gift as it can be called.

then that must come under free.

parts were for my car. gearbox. it was the tremec world class box.

but i think it will be a great success.  re-cycling and re go together.

we can but try. WHO DARES WINS.

this site has just moved up a gear. menny thanks to all.

Tom:

thanks for the heads up!

i am not quite ready to get rid of a bunch of stuff, but probably next year i will.

i have an enormous amount of of very useful stuff that i know some folks would kill for, and i probably will not be moving it all half way across the country.

knowing that there is a place populated with folks of like mind that can put this junk to good use would please no end,,, far better than dumping the stuff or scrapping it.

yes this board has moved up at least one notch in my books

Hi Tom and All,

Because of the shipping issue in many cases, I wonder if it would be feasible to run an associated "Shipping Facility" where a person could offer transport if travelling between vendor & recipient. Used to do this 'twixt Yorkshire and Geneva when living in Yorkshire.

  Just a thought

Good luck

Walsdos;

Would be fine with me. Biggest problem I have is getting "stuff" to UK without 5 miles of paperwork for rechargable batteries.

I can ship these all over the US for less than 10EU but try to send a nice amount to the UK and ohhhhhh the paperwork!! then there's the cost!!

Was told a different way, will let you all know.

I would like to say that after using it a in times.

I like the idea that it makes you preview your post Before it lets you post.

I've already caught a few typo misteaks and needed to insert a few extra words to make sence.

Thanks for the chance to try it out.

Your monthly stiped is in the mail:-)

Cheers
