Canadian Coastal Tragedy.

(1/2) > >>

juiced:
"An oil spill off the coast of Newfoundland is much worse than first thought, authorities said Monday.
It was first reported by Petro-Canada, operators of the Terra Nova platform, that 200 barrels had spilled. However, the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board, which monitors the industry in the province, said it was actually up to 1,000 barrels.
That's about 170,000 litres.
"This is the largest oil spill to date in the Newfoundland offshore," said Simone Keough, spokeswoman for the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board. "

I feel bad hearing this news.

In the Baltic a lot of the Russian oil-export  are transported, often by boats which are far from the standards of safety. Up to now have not any major accident take place. The incidents are there many times. Ships not built for water with winter clima are stuck in the ice so make hard pressure on  them.

It is not a question IF its a question WHEN a  serious accident will  take place.

nothing to lose:
"Couldnt be much worse."

Yes it could be, could have been my coffee! I can live without OIL!
I do hate to hear about such things though really all jokes aside, but as others have pointed out worse has happened, at least in other areas if not there.
Technology is pretty good for cleaning up such stuff, though it does still need alot of improvement. Hopefully they were ready for it with all the right stuff close by. I don't care about the oil itself, not much in terms of daily use or production, but I hope all the fishies and birdies are ok in that area.
