Electric Ed is having problems connecting to fieldlines
« on: October 04, 2004, 06:06:20 PM »
Electric Ed sent an email stating he hasn't been able to connect to fieldlines in a few days now...  I haven't had any problems... any ideas?

I am having problems connecting too. Very VERY slow to actually get connected, once on however, not so bad.

Ed;

It was definitely down yesterday for a couple hours with either page not found or webserver errors. It sure seems to be slow lately for me too. Eventually the pages do load tho.

sometimes I see over 50 users on here.

It was running really slow for me last week and I scanned for a virus and it found 3 of the little bugers. After I cleaned it all up, the board seems to be fine...

Most of you guys that are having trouble are in Canada? Could be something to do. with it?

Sometimes Fieldlines is SLOWED right down, then it gets back up again. This seems to be a steady pattern,

Yesterday, it was obviously offline for a few hours, like it did once every few months. Perhaps this is for maintenance, I cannot say.

But if Mister Ed is out for a few days, this definitely tells something different. I myself have been out for longer period of time before.

Thanks for reading,

Have a big day mates,

Harry

I am not in Canada, I am FAR down south from Canada.

I do use the slow connection when visiting Fieldlines. But I usually compare the speed of one site against many other sites to say what is slow from what is not. You can get a pretty averaged feel about the speed of any one site this way.

Jolly day mates,

Harry.

I cannot recall the exact days...

I believe a router went down on Friday or Saturday and shut us down for a couple hours.  I believe yesterday..  our server was shut down and restarted, but that should've been fairly brief.

Another thing that I think happens at the beginning of each month, is that search engines index the site which takes a bit and uses lots of bandwidth.

50 users - doesnt really slow us down at all, it can handle much more than that. Most of the time it's been fine, but i have also noticed a few problematic periods over the last couple days.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

I think that the server

was down yesterday

a few hours. At least

it did not work for me.

I'm not in Canada, but

in North Europe.

I am HAPPY to report that things are back to normal this (Friday) morning, after five days.

I get on as quickly as before, I'm still logged in, and cookies are intact (preferences still set, etc). Go figure!

Thanks for whatever you did.

Hi Ed!

Glad you got back on...

very odd - we looked at things on our end and could find nothing wrong... (we did nothing!)  It's good that  your back though, and I wonder how many other folks had the same problem out there that were perhaps not members of the board!
