Is it just me?
« on: January 16, 2005, 11:25:29 AM »
Is it just me? All of a sudden I can't read the comments attached to the latest postings unless I log on. When I read the latest postings without logging on it says there are no comments attached even when the front page says there are! As soon as I log on they become visible. I can read comments attached to earlier posting without any problem. Have the gremlins been at it again?

baggo;

Well, I never log off so haven't seen that. But, I have noticed that even after I have read the comments to a story the "red #" for new comments does not go away. Makes it a butt pain to know when new stuff is really posted.

I still miss the "# new" thing that got eliminated awhile back and was supposed to be added back.

This new glitch makes it much harder to keep current on comments.

Cheers.

We're aware of the comments not being visible when not logged in, and trying to figure out what changed in the last couple days. There have been Apache upgrades recently, but I can't figure out why they affected Scoop.

The "new" tag problem is not happening from here. "new" all depends on how we have a session defined...what exactly is a "session?" I suspect browser issues, since I'm not having the problem. Firefox on Linux here.

We're of aware these issues and trying to figure out what's up.

Me too. Does this mean you are volunteering to fix it? I'll send you the raw PERL code to take a look. ;~)

Seriously, though, I'd fix it if I knew how!

Hah, just noticed (thanks to DanB) that older stories still show comments for anonymous (not logged in) users.....might be able to track it down now.

I had the same problem (running internet eploder)but fixed it here

without logging on

At the bottom of the posts there are some drop-down menu's listed after the word

display. one of the menu's has the option of, nested or Threaded, mine said

nested. I selected "threaded" from the drop-down then clicked on the change box at

the end of the menu's, worked for me

After reading the post and comments the comments are staying NEW with the numbers also staying red. other than that I have no problems.

The problem seems to be when the display preference is set to 'nested' When set to anything else, the comments are displayed as normal. It all seems to have gone pear shaped after yesterday i.e. Saturday 15th january,
