I haven't been on ebay in a long time!  I was searching through some EV parts and decided to check out what was going on with wind turbines lately...

I couldn't believe what I was seeing!  2500 watt turbines with 5 ft blades and you get a free C-40 charge controller!  I've been so busy lately I must have missed the new wind blade technology... let's see 5 ft diameter times C-40 charger divided by ... wow that should run my whole neighborhood.  I should be able to modify it a little and double my power with half the blade size right?

What a bunch of BS... I sure hope people aren't falling for that.  The only thing I saw that was any good were the magnets that the Dan's are selling.  How depressing!  What ever happened to truth in advertizing?

Buyer Beware!

The phrase "buyer beware" comes to mind.  You have to know what you are buying if you buy it there, and who you are buying it from.  If you buy magnets from the Dans, then you know what you are getting and who you are getting it from based upon their history.  With a lot of these ads, the claims are obviously fraudulent, but with others it is hard to tell.  The feedback is a good thing to look at, but even that can be misleading, as I bet the 5 foot 2500 watt turbine guy has good feedback for the most part.  I think of myself as rather web savvy, but I've been burned a couple of times, bought a Matrix solar panel from a guy in Brooten, MN which never came, turned out the seller with a hundred fifty eight in positive feedback fell of the face of the earth (I havn't found what happened to him yet, but I will).  Had another bad experience with a guy from Canada, but I was able to track him down and get most of my money back.  Be wary of e-mails in general, especially for second chance offers as I've heard of fraudulent ones being sent out by persons other than the seller of the original item.  I tend to buy from the same people as I have in the past when I can, even if the cost is sometimes a little higher.  At least that way I know what I am getting.  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  Still, all in all, I like the service as I have an opportunity to obtain things that just aren't available in stores or even by cataloge anymore.  Rich Hagen

perhaps the fine print has the missing details,,

like the 5 ft rotor needs a catagory 5 hurricane to deliver the 2500 watts!!

or perhap's it is 2500 milliwatt!!! hehe

"devil's in the details" as they say

lol

To late Ed,

Somebody fell for it(several somebodies). According to his completed sales between the 2.5 KW model and the 600 W model he's made $3800.00 in the last 2 weeks. Sold 2 of the 2.5's and 3 600's!!!! The power rating may be a (little) off :->, but he has a very impressive auction page, don't you think???? WEll I guess if you took 3.5 HP at 700 sumthin' watts per HP and multiplied it by 3.5 you could get 2500W sorta. I'm no expert and I can't find the formula on here right now so would somebody calculate a 4 foot diameter in a 40MPH wind. That's what the 600W model claims. Seems funny to me that a 4 foot area creates 600W and a 5 footer(or is that the 6' or 7'option) creates 2.5KW.

Theres a lot of unbelievable stuff going on there at ebay.  I search 'wind generator' fairly often, and it's scary what comes up and how well the stuff sells.

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

You know, its not just on abstract venues like ebay that near hysteria is showing up re renewable resource power these days - I went to a local farm auction here in northern MD last week, and watched a badly weathered and rusted 200w. 6v Wincharger with worn-out prop and rusty 10' tower go for $700, and the guy seemed happy to get it!  The only worthwhile part of the setup seemed to be about 100ah of wet nicad batteries that looked to be recoverable.                      Van    K3CZ

I sent the seller a question on ebay.  "will you double money back if your 2.5kw generator does not meet your advertised specs"

what do you think the chances of them answering it are?   :)

I've been pleased with the white LEDs I got . Twenty for one cent  , $2.95 shipping. Now they have 100 for one cent , $7.95 shipping! It cost  $6.95 for ONE lesser white LED at  radio shack. US manufacturers can't compete with the Chinese because the dollar is worth so much. There are deals to be had from China - just ask Walmart:)

Well now, what do you think the odds are of you actually receiving double your money back when the turbine doesn't meet the advertised specs.  It's one thing to say, and another to do.  Rich Hagen

especially the part about about needing a force five hurricane to get the claimed power output in watts. hehe : )

Actually there is a catagory 4 hurricane headed towards miami. Just great.. Now there'll be pandamonioum on all the grocery stores and building supply stores- Just what I need to deal with for the next two weeks of my activites.

Have fun

someone mentioned advertisers and politicians...

i have heard a joke about them saying a truth. it goes something like this:

when are politicians telling lies?

if they start opening their mouths, you are 100 % they are lying.
