Cheap Solar USB Charger Works!
« on: February 18, 2010, 11:50:35 AM »
I was not expecting much for $1 plus $2.59 S&H from Hong Kong.

It is smaller than I expected.  Must lose size in the SAE-Metric conversion?  LOL

Listed on eBay as 0.4W, 5.1V output, USB 2.0,

"Work for MP3 MP4 players or cell phones with 3.6V build-in rechargeable battery".

The little bugger is impressive.

The wife's MP3 players charge in the car during use, but they power up and say "Full charged".

The Garmin Edge 305 GPS charges fine.

Motorola BlueTooth ear piece charges fine too.

That is all I could find here to connect it too.

Looks like it would work with anything that charges from USB 2.0.

It even charges (some) behind double pane window, with a screen, in slightly overcast conditions.

I would not call it rugged, but more than adequate for the intended purpose. It should be fine in a glove box, purse, or jacket pocket.

eBay seller "techogroup".

Current listing as #150412974996.

Nice to see something like this for a good price.

You could mount in on a baseball cap or similar head gear.

Nice gizmo

That would be nice to keep my cameras battery topped off. The problem with usb chargers is that if the voltage is 5 volts most go into charge mode and stop working.

I have one of those hand-crank usb chargers and if I keep the speed slow, the device charges without switching to "computer mount" mode.

I bought it to get the 2 little PVs for another project,

but do not have the heart to tear the little thing apart.
