My pictures are to big!
« on: October 28, 2005, 11:48:23 PM »
Sory to bug you guys, but how are you makeing your pictures so small? I haven't worked with a computer till last fall when I came acrossed this web sight. I am useing didgetal pictures that take like 1500 pixels. Can this be shrunk to what it takes to upload them? I would lik to show you my wind work on my turbine, but I can't. I would have took alot more pictures if I knew I could have posted them. I have some pictures I would like to share with you. John

If you look on your Start Menu, then go to All Programs (if you're using XP), then get into the Accessories submenu.

In there you'll find the program Paint.

Open Paint and load up your pics.  At the top will be a drop-down menu named "Image".  In there you'll find "Stretch/Skew".

Using a percentage of the original, you can stretch (or shrink in your case) the image to any size you want.

Then just "Save as.." to your upload folder.  Don't just do "Save" as the original master file will be overwritten.

You should be able to set your camera to take small pictures

The VGA setting on your camera will be 640x480

The E-Mail setting on your camera should be 320x240

If you have a good Digital Camera, then you should learn some photo editing software to help you control your picures, like: PhotoShop, Corel Draw or as suggested above, the windows paint program.   Good Luck . . .

Jmk, try IrFanView (google it).  This is a handy program that will resize your pictures in one easy step.  It also will allow you to convert between many different formats.

Here's the link:

Hope that helps...

Make sure when you save too, to use JPG. I've seen some people post BMP files here, and those are huge - 3 bytes per pixel.

And for simple drawings (like something done in paintbrush) with very few colors, there's a format called PNG that does an excellent job of compressing that sort of image.
