Admin-relocating posts needs work
« on: March 26, 2005, 12:23:52 PM »
Nothing wrong with the admin relocating posts to what they feel is a  more appropriate subsection but fix it. Everytime this is done the post gets lost from the main page where most hang out. I have watched my posts and those that get move get little to no replies and those that remain on the main page get many replies and actual conversations are carried out.

Reno;

Ah, umm, do you think maybe it has to do with the quality of the posts that do not get to stay on the main page rather than the location?

Just a thought.

You could be right about that Tom, I've replied to a post

and went back 2 or 3 days later

and there has been no activity even the one

that posted hasn't acknowledged....so you come to

the conclusion that they haven't got back to you

yet or they don't like your reply....

                   Fun !

At this point I'm starting to think the best thing to do is eliminate the front page alltogether and have the everything page as the default. I never use the front page.

Set your bookmark to the everything view and forget about the front page. Any one who is going to answer your questions will likely also be an everyhting page user so don't fret if your post falls off the front page.

  Just like this post....

http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2005/3/25/01524/2145

.....it's on Everything but not on Frontpage

and so Bob isn't acknowledging and anybody else

that would have replied aren't looking at Everything....

                 just wondering...

That's fine for me but the issue is no one else is seeing the posts. For me to view my post with ZERO replies is rather useless.

I don't know.

If the motto, the only stupid question is one not asked applies on these boards, which I hope is true. But I know that is not the case and this is why. I posted a question to windstuff and left in under 'Homebrew' it got moved to mechanical and got no responses not even from windstuff. A few days later I copy pasted the exact same question but placed it under mechanical. Once again a small conversation started and windstuff chimed in. This once again proved by leaving it on the main page it is viewed more often.

Have alook for your self

this one was moved

This one stayed on the main page

Norm see my post above

I reposted the same but used Admins choice for location on the second one so it wouldn't get moved and it got 11 responses. I don't understand why a post can be move to another subsection with getting booted of the main page. Yes I always read log on to the everything page but me doing that is not going to make anyone else see my posts.

Which is why I think the front page sould be ditched. I think it's causing confusion and some anxiety amongst some posters. Did anyone see it or does no-one have an answer they would feel good about posting? I don't have an answer for bobs post. It's way over my head.
