10 kW car alternator for $1000
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:05:29 AM »
I don't know why this bugs me so much. I guess I do, because people with serious intentions in wind power get our names smeared by this kinda stuff.

On the other end of the scale are the guys that spend all their money on renderings and animations. Bypassing silly selling of product and going right for Obama stimulus funds as a main selling point to get investors.

Just a personal rant, this is where they go, right?

Yeah although i couldn't see the movie ,(no quicktime and dont want it), putting down all three bladed wind turbines , because ONE blew up in 1941 , is kinda stupid.

There is a company going after stimulus money with what i think is a hair brain scheme.

They want to make MW of power by floating a large pontoon on the water , and using the up and down motion of the water to make this power.

I say it will not work as consistently as using wind ,because the reciprocating motion of the waves is just going to put out spurts of power.

For large scale power generation Its like going back to a internal combustion engine AFTER the gas turbine has been invented.

The ebay guy's calculator must need new batteries.

By his own numbers (1200RPM, 2.7 ohm load, 7.2A), at 1200RPM it is only making 140W.

Wow.  7.2A.  Good thing it has those "True 400-450 amp diodes"!

"Is its power exaggerated?"  LOL

Let me clarify that my comparison between the internal combustion engine and the gas turbine in NO WAY was an endorsement of the firefly turbine-ish looking wind contraption.

thanks for reading

Hi

Those bendy wave machines work by driving a hydraulic pump (forces oil through pipes as it bends) which in turn drive a hydraulic motor, they use an accumulator to smooth the spurts out and generate smooth power. They have several of them working on the Belgian coast and some experemental units round the coast of Scotland.

They know there's money to be made, even if the product is weak (or non-existent).

You can take the Mariah Windspire, as an example.  They've been selling machines with claims of over 1 kw power in 11.2 meter/sec wind.  Then they gave the NREL one to test - maybe they began to believe their own b.s. by repeating it to customers enough.

Well, the NREL tried for a few months to get energy out of it, but it never ran for more than 1 month without shedding some parts or blowing up the inverter.  The test site is a class 3 - good for testing but not severe by any stretch.  The NREL just abandoned the tests without filing a complete report - I suppose so that Mariah could save face.  The brief summary report that they did file is just a litany of failures.

Perhaps somewhere in this Mariah has realized that they don't want to produce junk any more, but what they currently have is.  Now on the Mariah website is a list of warranty fixes and "upgrades" that address the problems.

No one believes the theory except the one who developed it. Everyone believes the experiment except the one who ran it.

I just browsed through that Mariah Windpower stuff published by NREL. It was pretty bad. At least now they know where their problem are..... perhaps they should start with fixing all the nuts and bolts coming off.

The seller is a nut (cracked nut). He refers to planetary alignments bringing doom in 2010 to 2012.

That's the Aztec calender thing he is playing on, and incorrectly, and yes it restarts.

And yes, my TV is stuck on the History Channel.

I still can't get past 140W at 1200RPM with 16.5' blades thing.

Or his super conductor diodes being good for 1 Volt Systems, and that being the reason his competitors rewind their car alts

(making me wonder if he does NOT even bother to rewind those things!).

BTW.  The price jumped up to $1100.  Plus S&H.
