How to Wire 2 solar panels and measuring amp output?
« on: August 31, 2004, 02:34:50 PM »
Hi,

I got a used 60 watt solar panel that I would like to hook up with my existing 110 watt panel. How would I go about it and ensure that I would not blow my regulator which is 20 amps.

Also how do I measure the amp output from the panel?

Thanks

You should be able to just connect the two panels in parallel i.e positive to positive and negative to negative. Your existing panel will probably give out about 7 amps and your new 60 Watt panel about 4 amps so the combined output will be about 11 amps at the most. This should be well within the capabilities of your 20 Amp charge controller. If you want to measure the current output of your panel just put an ammeter in either the positive or negative lead.

Put a resistance across the output ( maybe 200 ohms 10 watt ) measure the voltage

and let brother OHM do the rest
