Grid Tie inverters
« on: December 11, 2006, 07:51:10 PM »
I am looking for grid tie inverters that are suitable for 1Kw (8 x (12v) 125 watt panels). I am little confused about voltage input for these inverters. Most I have looked at have very high voltage input. How does this translate for the type of panels selected for a small grid tie system. Do I need 24v or 12v panels? Are there grid tie inverters with low voltage input. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks, Paul

There are several low voltage grid tie inverters available from Xantrex and Outback,

they require a battery bank. I believe SMA (Sunny Boy) has a few inverters for direct intertie as does Fronius (IG). Your 8 12 volt panels all in series should have an open circuit voltage of 168-175 volts and a max power voltage of 135-140 volts.

Also the advantage of high voltage series strings is smaller wires AND less losses.

hi

I have the beacon power m5 inverter it is a 48 volt it has battery backup which has been great in florida with all the hurricaines it is pricey about 4850 is the cheapest i have seen it, but well worth the money you can add more panels later it works with 4 panels up to 6000 watts.
