Linear Actuator with no limits up date
« on: May 23, 2008, 09:11:46 AM »
First thanks for the help it's working now. This is my first time at all this. I made a slide bar on the upper side with limit flags. Put 2 limits on top. Used the diodes that were on the bad board. Wired it like the drawing that came with the red rock controller. My solar now gives me 3.75 to 4 amps 7 hours a day. Running the kitchen light 24 7 off it. (35 watt cf) If the sun is out. I do have one question. I have a 17 Ah battery running the unit. To keep the battery up. I put 2 1.5 watt panels on the tracker to the battery. No controler just straight to the battery. The unit is rated 4 amps at 24 volts. My set up is so light that it does not show any power draw when it moves that I could see. I am running it on 12 volts.

I was going to post photos but we all have seen trackers.

hi basil. i am working on a soler panel tracker.

only problems will be it will be manual .electric motors for up and down.

side to side. but will have to press a switch to make it move.

bits are from sat dish.   so it would be great to see sum pics.

i am ok with mechanicals but no good with electrics type thing.

is it possible you can put drawings or pics as to how you made it move.

Here is a photo.

I guess you can go look at all my photos I have.

Just a 3'' ploe with a 2'' flange bearing at the top to turn. Bought a Linear Actuator and put it on. The limit board was bad and as the post said but I got that going with some limits on the out side. Udsed wire around the house and a water tight bowl for a Jbox the breaker and so on. Mine just tracks East to West. The red Rock controller works great. Worth 3 times what I paid but don't give him any ideas. Planning to go bigger. All this is just learning and having fun.

Hope Some one good with math tells me what it takes to keep my tracker battery going. It's done fine for a week so for. When testing and setting up the actuator. I ran it in and out about 4 times and the battery was to low to run it.

thanks basil. i am making progress on my tracker mounts.

its more interesting than i thought.

the good thing is i don't need to put it on a pole 60 foot up in the air.

if im lucky it wont be very high at all. but will be well clear of the ground

so it don't get knocked about.

at the moment its all thinking and drilling holes.

maybe one day i can fit a red rock type gadget .
